Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
My progress towards this standard
1. Inquiry Based Learning Lesson Plan
An Inquiry Based Learning project is intended to be an active learning process that promotes questioning and students working towards finding a unique answer. For our lesson plan, I worked with two other students to create a lesson around climate change to inform students and allow them to come up with a solution to reverse the effects of climate change. This is a collaborative example of inquiry based learning because we allow the students to form their own solutions after a lesson over the baseline information needed to assess the climate change issue.
2. Screen-cast Badge
I created this Screen-cast Badge over the months of the year and their pronunciations. This video could be shown in 2nd grade classroom and used to engage the students in a virtual environment because they are more likely to engage with a fun video than a lecture. I used my knowledge of the subject matter to teach the months of the year while using technology and will continue to do so in my future classroom.
2. Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards.
a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
c. Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources
d. Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards, and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
My progress towards this standard
1. Computational Thinking Lesson Plan
During the creation of the lesson plan, my partners and I thought about ways to integrate technology into our lesson over making a short story. We decided to use the coding program, Scratch to allow the students to create their stories, while pursing their individual curiosities, and by managing their own learning of story telling and algorithms. It allows students to be in charge of their own learning process while still following some guidelines set by us, the instructors. The lesson plan cultivated in a presentation of their short story using Scratch which allowed them to learn about both content and technology standards.
2. Hour of Code Badge
The Hour of Code is a great thing to use in my future classroom, there is so much diversity with the different programs students can pick from. I could also choose to connect the Hour of Code with my lesson plan for that day as they have Hour Of Code activities that can supplement content based lessons. It is a great way to integrate STEM into the classroom that allows students to become curious and pursue their curiosity about STEM related fields and activities.
3. Model digital age work and learning Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.
a. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
b. Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation
c. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats
d. Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning
My progress towards this standard
1. Open House Flyer Badge
The Open House Flyer I created helps to collaborate with students, peers, and especially parents and community members about the future classroom their students will be in. The flyer gives you information such as information about the Open House, my contact information to cultivate a relationship with my students and their teacher, and a video about the first day of school jitters to support my students and help ensure their success. It also has a QR code to communicate with my future parents and students while using digital tools in a digital age.
2. Info-graphic Badge
The Info-graphic created communicates relevant information about my future classroom. I created this info-graphic by using digital website called Piktochart that can also be used in the classroom for a student's assignment. This particular info-graphic was about rules for using technology in the classroom that would be put up to ensure the student's success in the classroom regarding the handling of technology in the classroom.
4. Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility.Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
a. Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources
b. Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources
c. Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information
d. Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital age communication and collaboration tools
My progress towards this standard
1. Digital Citizenship Lesson Plan
The Digital Citizenship Lesson Plan I created with two other classmates is the perfect example of the how to promote and model digital citizenship. During our lesson plan, the future third graders were instructed to look themselves up to find their digital footprint. They then played a informative board game regarding internet safety filled with scenarios and QR codes to learn more about global awareness about your digital footprint. The culmination of the project was that they were supposed to gather information from credible sources about their favorite celebrity's digital footprint.
2. Twitter Chat
During the Twitter Chat we were instructed to answer questions about Digital Citizenship and how we would handle those issues in our future classrooms. It was very helpful and informative to see everyone promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to technology. I believe it was a good tool to use to see everyone's ideas about Digital Citizenship, a concept that is becoming more prevalent in today;s society.
5. Engage in professional growth and leadership Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.
a. Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning
b. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others
c. Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning
d. Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community
My progress towards this standard
1. LMS Badge
I created a Google Classroom for my future second grade classroom for the Learning Management System Badge. The use of the Google classroom demonstrates my ability to exhibit leadership through a digital tool of my choosing. It also allows my future students to participate in a local learning community and it integrates technology into the classroom in a helpful way.
2. Chatterpix Badge
I created this Chatterpix to introduce myself to my future second grade classroom. It demonstrates that I am the leader in the classroom and helps introduce myself to my new students. It can also be used to improve student learning because you can integrate the Chatterpix app into your lesson plans in the classroom.
