I created the Open House Flyer with the help of a website called Smore. Smore is a website that allows users to make flyers. This website is great for teachers to use because it allows them to make fun, functional posters for school events and activities. Teachers can use this website to create flyers to notify students and parents about events, like Open Houses or Talent Shows or a list of assignments and due dates for that week. This Open House flyer I created, tells parents what to expect at the Open House, it gives a schedule of the night, it also gives my contact information for any further questions parents might have, and it includes a QR code so parents can access it online and has a video for the students that address first day of school jitters.
I used an app called Chatterpix to create a video to greet my students on the first day of school. Chatterpix allows you to choose a photo, either of yourself or something else and lets you record a audio message while the picture "speaks" for you. It is great to use in the classroom because it is a funny way to introduce yourself or new topics to the class. Elementary students will more than likely enjoy this app. The video I created introduces myself to my future classroom and gives some overview to the year ahead in my future classroom.
I used a meme generator to create memes that I could use in my future classroom. The ones I created have to do with use of technology in the classroom and the importance of studying for the subjects studied in the class like spelling. These are handy to have for the classroom because memes have become increasingly popular on social media and in society the past couple of years. It is relatable to my future 2nd or 3rd grade students. It puts the task of using technology and studying at a relatable level for the students.
I used Google Classroom as an example of a Learning Management System. Learning Management Systems are a way to communicate with your students or teachers, you can assign work and set reminders, and create events and allow your students and their parents to view these. I used Google Classroom to create a hypothetical page for my hypothetical 2nd grade class and put some fake reminders, information, and assignments on it. It is a efficient way to integrate technology into your classroom.
I used a concept map building website called Popplet to build my concept map of the days of the week and their abbreviations. This website makes it nice and easy to create attractive looking maps that I could see in my future classroom. I could see assigning an assignment that requires its use as part of a project. It is easy to use so I believe it would be acceptable to assign in a second or third grade classroom, they could create something similar to what I made to help them learn or organize their ideas.
I created this badge using a website called Screencast-O-Matic. Screencast is a website that allows you to voice over your work on your computer screen. In this Screencast, I did a mini lesson over the months of the year and their abbreviations. I found a informative, descriptive picture from Google and went through the months and the abbreviations using the photo as an appealing visual. If I was using this in my future classroom, I would use it to introduce the concept of abbreviations and follow it with a lesson about days of the week and months of the year and the abbreviations. This Screencast-O-Matic is a great tool to engage students through entertaining and informative videos about important topics.
The production badge was a video about how to tell time. I created this video using iMovie. I took pictures with my phone and transferred them to the iMovie app to teach my future students how to tell time and give examples of different times in the video I created. If I were to use this in my future classroom i would give this video to my students to use as a resource if they were ever confused about how to tell time and help prepare them for my assessment of their knowledge of how to tell time. It is a good way to inform my students without having to take class time to explain the terms.
I created this info-graphic using a website called Piktochart. Piktochart is a website that allows you to created aesthetically pleasing graphics to use in the classroom. This particular one I created lists my top 5 rules for using technology in the classroom. It includes rules for the use of technology in the classroom and how to use class time wisely while using technology. It also touches on the use of personal devices in the classroom. It is important to set ground rules for the use of technology in your classroom to prevent misuse of the technology.
I used a website called Storify to create this badge. For this badge, I participated in a w200 class Twitter chat. We discussed the importance of digital citizenship in the classroom. The curator of the chat asked the questions and we were supposed to answer the questions as well as respond to the other participant's answers. This was informative because it allowed me to think about the questions asked along the way and form my answers. It was also helpful to look at other's answers to further my knowledge about the subject. I could use a Twitter chat in my class to talk about cyber-bullying and have my future students create a Storify to assess their understanding of the concept of cyber-bullying.
I completed my hour of code by using code to complete a Disney Moana way finding game. I really like this use of the Hour of Code programming because it is relatable to kids and is interesting enough to keep their attention for a hour of their time. Even if they don't like Disney Princesses, there is something for everyone like Star Wars, cooking, or robot code game. This also generates interest in STEM fields at a very young age which is beneficial because STEM is viewed as a boring field but using concepts familiar to children make it more interesting.
